The History
The Lenormand Cards, originally designed in 1799, as a parlour game, are being used for divination and fortune telling since 1825. Lenormand Cards originated from Europe- Paris, France, and Nuremberg, Germany.
The Cards came in to being in the late 18th Century, are made of simple imagery, they deal with more tangible issues rather than psychological ones. They communicate concrete message as opposed to Tarot Cards which have many meanings. They give clear meanings and thus readings are better at every-day life and predictive readings.
Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1772–1843) was a French professional fortune-teller of considerable fame during the Napoleonic Era. In France, Lenormand is considered the greatest Cartomancer of all times, highly influential on the wave of French Cartomancy that began in the late 18th century.
The cards rose to fame with the ‘Fortune Telling’ of rise of Napoleon to be ‘The Duke of Enghien’ and later NOT returning to power after ‘The Battle of Waterloo’.
About the Deck and the Spreads for Reading
The deck consists of 36 and at times 40 cards with pictures and numbers on them which carry a ‘Meaning or Message’, as read by the ‘Reader’ based on the ‘Seekers’ questions.
The Cards are ‘Positive, Negative, and Neutral’ in nature and can also be ‘Key, Directional, or Significator Cards’ and thus have equivalent interpretations while the readings are done.
The cards can have a ‘Three, Five, Seven Cards Spread’, or a Nine Cards, Decision, Pyramid, and Astrological Spreads in a particular format, to have deeper and connected answers to questions.
Icing on the Cake
The best of this reading is the layout of all the 36 cards in one go, called the ‘Grand Tableau’, where-in, all 36 cards are laid out in a particular manner. I must admit that even if the ‘Seeker’ has sought no questions and has about 30 minutes to an hour of time, the ‘Reader’ can give the ‘Seeker’ an insight in to his/her- Relationship, Finances, Business, Career, Travels, possible choices between options, and much more.
The readings have a ‘Past, Present, and Future’, what overwhelms the ‘Seeker’ and what he or she has in control, and also takes the readings to higher levels through ‘The Knighting’, ‘Intersection’, ‘Chain of Houses’, ‘Meeting Point’ and ‘Crowning’ reading techniques.
To cap it all, the Lenormand Cards can be well combined with the Tarot Cards and thus the modality is an ‘Icing on the Cake. Readings can be done which can thus have a mixed flavour of the two modalities and with richer and deeper insights for the readers or the seekers.
